Random Friday 10-30

Hattori Hanzo Hattori Hanzo

As usual, we're going to have our standard Random Friday post.  One thing I've forgotten over the past weeks is our random weapon, so this week I've included a Hattori Hanzo sword from the infamous Kill Bill movies.

Let's get this party started!

-  Quote of the week

This week's "Quote of the Week" comes to us from IFAST member Brian Sawa.  While performing a set of kettlebell swings, Mike the Intern told Brian to keep his chest up and finish with his hips.

Upon completion of his set, Brian removed his headphones and uttered the following:

Don't you ever, EVER interrupt me ever again while I'm listening to Mariah Carey.

-  Products Galore

Today is the last day to pick-up Mike Boyle's Functional Strength Coach 3.0 with all of the freebies.  As well, Coach Boyle has set it up so those with budget issues can do a payment plan to purchase the DVD series.  Check it out!

Many of you will also remember the Warp-Speed Fat Loss program that Alwyn Cosgrove and Mike Roussell pulled together last year.  Well, it's back!

With a new and improved training protocol, WSFL is definitely top-notch.  I lost 15 pounds following the diet alone last year, so if you're serious about losing weight fast, be sure to visit their site.  I'm pretty sure they're even offering a free workout that you can try if you're unsure of the programming.

Finally, don't forget that Assess and Correct is only on sale through this Sunday at midnight!  If you want to pick it up for the introductory rate of $97, don't wait any longer!

-  Two weeks out from Monsters of the Midwest

We're only two weeks out from the raw powerlifting meet, and I can't wait to see how some of our guys do!

In this event we have IFAST members Lance Goyke, Kyle Penfound, and Jason Wells competing.  An online client of mine, Eric Oetter, will be coming up from Georgia as well.

I'll be sure to post pics and videos as soon as I have them.  I can virtually guarantee, though, that PR's are going to be falling!

-  Updated Newsletter page and a free video!

In case you missed it, the Newsletter page is now a registration page only.  If you aren't a newsletter subscriber, not only do you miss out on all the newsletter archives, but you miss out on a free bonus as well!

In this case, I have a free video from a seminar I gave this past year on low back and core training.  I've broken it up into 4, 15 minute segments, but this presentation should give you an overview on the scientific basis behind my methodology, as well as how I apply it in the gym.

-  Jason Pegg Podcast

I've been a little slow in releasing it, but the latest edition of In the Trenches Fitness is now available.  This time around, I've got Jason Pegg on the line, and if you can get over the incessant "chirping" in the background, I think you'll take away some great training nuggets.

Jason Pegg Podcast

Lastly, I'm interested - who would you all like to see interviewed on the Podcast in the future?  Leave some names in the "Comments" section below and I'll do my best to get them on!

Stay strong

What about Harry Selkow for a podcast guest? He is a great coach, strong and tough as nails. His philosophy on both strength and life are refreshing.

Jim Wendler is always entertaining and educating. Your old article on Elite about building a garage gym might be a good topic.

Also, Mike, have you considered the implications of your spam detector? Can a spam-bot believe it is not a robot? If the parable Terminator taught us anything, it is that when machines become self-aware, humans are in trouble.

How about Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Johnnie who?

I can't believe you brought back the weapon. That made my night.

Being two weeks out, you'd think my number one goal would be weight related. Pull 440#, bench 290#, total 1100#, or not bust a hip in the hole of my squat. You know, something monumental for me.

But no. I'm currently putting all of my energy into being the subject of next Friday's "Quote of the Week". Wish me luck.

Hi Mike,

First off I have to say I am a huge fan of yours and I love all your material here on your site as well as t-nation. I Am a weekend warrior who is always getting banged up and your tips are really helping me out . I read a comment by Jim Smith the other day that you and Cressey have changed the industry. I am 100 percent on board with that. I thave been training for 10-12 years steady and when I started, the guys that I were readying about were Pouliquin(the master) and Staley(the secret weapon).I love the nick names, and these guys are super smart, but no one was really bringing to light the issues of mobility and stability and moving pain free at a level that you guys are. I think that evryone needs this education, not to lift, but to live a little more heathier. The stuff you Bill and Cressey have put together is vital for every fitness buff on any level in any sport.

Ok, sorry for the rant. You asked about a speaker for your Podcast. I would like to hear Cosgrove. I am a fan of his too. I bought new rules of lifting this summer. Awesome. I lost 18 lbs in the last five months and really dialed myself in again.Another revolutionary thinker.I think you guys are awesome and thanks for making my lifting pain free and enjoyable again.

+1 for Jim Wendler.

Also, Louie Simmons, Dan John, Gray Cook, Ed Coan, Captain Kirk Karwoski, Andy Bolton and Dave Tate. A bit powerlifting oriented, but why not?
