Newer? Or BETTER?

Smith Machine Squats

Here’s an important distinction we need to make in this (and every) industry:

Is this new widget/device/gadget/exercise simply new, or is it actually BETTER?

Case and point…

We’ve known for decades that squatting is one of the premiere exercises to develop strength and size.  Not only in the hips and thighs, but really throughout the entire body.

At some point in time, the Smith machine came around, and people flocked to it.

The question then becomes, is this simply something new?

Or is it actually better than the original?

If you start thinking critically in this fashion, I think you’ll see that far too often we get caught up in what we believe to be the “next big thing.”

New isn’t necessarily bad – just remember that the big rocks are just that, the big rocks.  They’re there for a reason.  Maybe they get replaced from time-to-time, but it’s rare.

Instead of simply focusing on new, focus instead on better.  You’ll be a better trainer, coach and/or athlete for it.

Stay strong
