This is something I’ve been thinking about asking you guys forever, but I just hadn’t gotten around to it.
Everyone here knows I’m busy – I’m writing articles/blogs/newsletters, coaching, running two businesses, and that’s just the “professional” side of the equation
But hell, we’re all busy so I’ll stop my whining right now!
You know I don’t deal well without a lot on my plate. I have a book chapter that I need to wrap up by the end of the month, but after that it’s time for something new.
With that being said, I’m interested in your opinion on what my next project should be. I’ve really narrowed this down to two options, so here goes:
Option #1 – The UnBodybuilder E-Book
This one is pretty straightforward – I used to absolutely loathe cookie-cutter programming. I mean, every person that comes into IFAST gets an individualized program, so why would I do it any other way?
Well, in this case, there are certain things that almost everyone I work with needs. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but in my experience most people need the basics to move and feel better – a stronger core and posterior chain, more mobility in the ankles, hips, and t-spine, etc.
This product would include the following:
- 3-months of specific programming including soft-tissue work, mobility exercises, acute corrective drills, strength training and even cardio and post-workout stretching.
- Pictures and descriptions of all exercises.
- A rationale for each section of the programming, or the WHY behind the how.
I think this product would be ideally geared towards the end-user that has tried a lot of different routines, and can’t quite seem to get healthy and feel good. A perfect example would be someone who has trained via a traditional bodybuilding split, and wants to transfer into more athletic and/or strength focused programs.
Target Release Date: 1-2 months
Estimated Price: $30-$40
Option #2 – The Bulletproof Back manual
This would be very similar to the Bulletproof Knees manual, and the breakdown would look something like this:
- My overall philosophy on core/low back training.
- The functional anatomy involved.
- A basic assessment/screen (flexibility, mobility, strength, endurance, etc.)
- Keys to proper training of the core/lower back.
- A sample template/program to help get you on the road to recovery.
This would basically be everything I know about low back care in one resource. Keep in mind I spent 3 years in a chiropractic rehab facility, so while I’m no Stu McGill I’ve definitely worked with a lot of people suffering from low back pain!
Target Release Date: 3-4 months
Estimated Price: $100
So I’m interested – what would you all like to see? Please let me know Option #1 or Option #2, and whatever gets the most votes is the project I’ll work on next!*

My vote is for Option #1.
I may be biased because of my need for some insight into the basics, but I'm thinking your E-book could prevent some of the detrimental practices that result in back pain.
Someone like myself would have a more sound foundation and rather than needing to take corrective action, I'd already be on my way towards that Bulletproof Back(which you could conveniently release right as I finish up the E-book).
As for the people who already have the basics, you can never go wrong with revisiting them. So, I think Option #1 is a good pick chronologically.
I have recently read "bulletproof knees" and really enjoyed it. Great stuff that I find useful working with my training clients. As back disorders also are pretty commonly seen among the clients I deal with, my vote goes for option #2.
Reading this initially I was all about #1. I am still most interested in that one.
$$$ wise I think number 2 will do better.

Both those ideas sound great. I'd choose Bulletproof back first, then the Un-bodybuilder.

I definetely think the #1 would do better commercially considering the type of people you cater to, someone who is tired of bodybuidling cookie cutter programs and who is much more interested in all the benefits of a program that focuses on mobility and strength (and a bulletproof back). Please include lots of geeky kinesiology and make it a real book too…
But we want both products Mike, but #1 first please!

Option #1. As someone of a bit older age upon whom time has taken its toll, I think #1 with its mobility drills, stretching routine, etc. built into a solid training program will suit my demographic well. There really is nothing this comprehensive out there. Trust me- I've been searching…
Curious that you numbered the options as you did – something psychological in that Mike?
I vote for Option 1 because we all need a kick in the butt about basics and it would be a good first read before the Bulletproff Back.
Believe your readership is morphing in the past 9 months and it's July so a fresh start, mid year sounds grand.
Bulletproof back!!! I hope you include lots of core strengthening programs. Also Hips mobility, Hip strengthening, Hip stretches. Alot of back pain beings at sacrolumbar joint. Posture is so key to preventing joint pain whether it be ankle, knee, hips, back (spine), shoulder, and neck. Back pain is such a difficult area of the body to make bulletproof unless all the above is addressed in great detail. But I know Mike will come thru with information that can make training with back pain managable or even fixing back pain. I can't wait. Looking forward to Bulletproof back.
Bulletproof Back – would definitely be a day one purchase for me.

My vote is for Bulletproof Back, as it would serve as a great resource for strength coachs, personal trainers, and the average joe.
I believe many individuals have already bridged the gap between bodybuilding style programs and training for strength.
