Robertson Training Systems Updates:
New seminar dates on the horizon
It appears as though I have several seminars coming up that I wanted to make everyone aware of.
October 20th I will be speaking in Montreal, Quebec and going over my Bulletproof Knees presentation. I’ve updated quite a bit of material since the original presentation, so I’m sure this one will be even better than before!
I’m also working with a fellow from Australia which would allow me to speak there in February of 2008. This trip would include two one-day seminars in different cities (most likely Melbourne and Sydney).
Stay tuned to the newsletter and as I get more specifics I’ll be sure to let you know!
Training Tip:
Power Shrugs for Powerful Traps
One of the best exercises I’ve ever used to develop my traps is power shrugs. A hybrid Olympic pull/shrug is mixed into one meaty exercise that is guaranteed to blast your traps.
Use a moderate weight and take either a clean or snatch grip. Set-up at about the halfway position of an RDL, then explosively drive the hips forward and the feet through the floor. As your hips are coming forward, explosively shrug the upper traps while trying to keep the elbows locked. You don’t need a ton of weight here; focus on proper execution and really getting the bar moving.
Enjoy the sweet serenity of upper traps DOMS the next 2 days!
Nutrition Tip:
Pre-Eat When Going Out!
By Mike Roussell
Birthday parties, cocktail hour at your wife’s friend’s house, dinner at your parents all these occasions can wreak havoc on a well thought out meal plan. This is why proper Damage Control is important. So what can you do?
Pre-Eat.
Heading to a sugar laden social event on an empty stomach is a bad idea. And if you’re thinking “But I have great willpower” stop, why test yourself. Proper pre-eating will put a little food in your stomach, curb your hunger, and slow the digestion of whatever foods you do end up eating when you go out.
One of my favorite pre-eats is a medium sized apple and one ounce of low fat cheddar cheese. Apples have fiber, a low glycemic index, and have been shown to curb appetite. The cheese contains protein and fat both of which will increase your satiety (make you feel fuller) and slow the digestion of any other foods you eat.
Next time you find yourself headed to an unexpected social event run damage control and pre-eat!

Exclusive Interview: Jen Heath
After only conversing with Jen Heath a few times, I’ve got quite a bit of respect for her as a person and a human being.
While many are quick to come up with excuses for not training or eating properly, Jen has all that and more – she runs a business, has four kids, and still makes time to stay in great shape. What’s your excuse?
MR: Jen, let’s start from the beginning with the usual routine. Could you please tell the readers a little bit about yourself?
JH: I am a professional bodybuilder and personal trainer. I have been married for 10 years and have 4 children. I run a business online coaching clients from all walks of life in their personal goals. Those goals range from losing fat and improving body composition to stepping on stage as a physique competitor.
I lift heavy weights, ride dirt bikes, build houses, and change diapers (wink wink) In other words, I am pretty well rounded.
MR: I think one of the things that’s most inspiring about you is the fact that you’ve had four kids and still do what you do! How do you make it work?
JH: A lot of planning. I do not sleep in when morning rolls around. I don’t leave what my family will be eating to chance very often, and if I do, it’s no issue because I have all the foods I need. Always. I make a plan of my week so that errands, work and chores will all have a time and a place. I always spend quality time with my husband and kids for an hour or two each day so that I do not feel like a failure as a human being. They are the most important thing in my life.
I do not really have a lot of down time. I am always doing stuff. I am trying to attack responsibilities as I have time to get them done, so that when more come up, I am not completely behind. I always have fresh food prepared in my refrigerator, and I get sleep at night. Whatever it is, it can usually wait until tomorrow.
MR: I asked Cassandra Forsythe this for an upcoming interview as well, but I wanted you to weigh in. You look great, no doubt about it, but HOW did you get into the kind of shape you did? What are you doing different from the other females out there training?
JH: I am setting nutritional values for myself and meeting them. They are not ambiguous. I set things based on where I am at from week to week and what my goals are. I am not skipping workouts. I am not making excuses. No excuses.

I weight train hard, and eat for my goals. That is the thing people miss. Muscular development is a lot weight training, and fat loss is mostly food. Fine tuning the nutrition to accomplish both goals is a tricky thing. I have taken the time to figure out how this works, and apply it every day.
MR: Those are great points.
You’re a big advocate of the Anabolic Diet (AD). What do you like about this diet over other popularized diets out there? What sets it apart in your eyes?
JH: I personally use this during a portion of my year for competition purposes. I have some clients on it year-round, other part of the time, while others are not on it at all. It is all individual, however, I do love the AD very much!
The first thing that comes to mind is that it creates more anabolic muscles. Muscles simply live in a healthier environment because there is less insulin floating around, hormones associated with muscles such as testosterone and growth hormone are maximized. I love that you become a fat burning machine on the AD. The more fat you eat, the more you’ll burn. It is really quite awesome! People tend to be stronger on the anabolic diet, mostly in part to having more bodyweight being lean bodyweight. More muscle equals more strength.
Triglycerides and bad cholesterol have been known to be reduced as a direct side effect of the AD. It also reduces the risk for diabetes by managing the production and release of insulin in the body which sometimes gets out of control in higher carb fares. In addition to being healthier, energy levels usually skyrocket on the AD. Blood sugar levels are steady, which equals a nice steady flow of energy coming to the body at all times!
It also allows people to eat a wider range of foods. There are no foods that are really off limits. The carbs may have to wait for the weekend, but most people like it that way. So, you can enjoy high fat AND high carb foods. All the while, hunger levels are at an all time low. Being hungry all the time while dieting is a huge psychological deterrent to adherence. This fullness allows more people to be successful at getting lean. Not only that, but most of the time, junk food cravings that plague so many of us virtually disappear. How nice!
Lastly, I love it that individuals wanting to put on slabs of muscle can do it without getting fat. AD allows people to stay really lean while “bulking”. That age old problem is solved here.
MR: In recent months you’ve been hanging out with Kevin Larrabee and the FitCast crew. Personally, I think it’s great to know that have a woman keeping them in line, but what have you learned from doing that show in the past couple months?
JH: I love being a Co-host on the FitCast. I must admit, knocking those boys into line is the high point in my week (naaawww – that was a joke!…well sort of)
What I love most about the Fitcast and being a part of it is how much it offers the audience, and how much I learn. Fitness has a huge scope. The goals in the fields of health and fitness and sports are so widely varied. At the Fitcast, we talk about all of those things. We did an entire episode just on baseball. We talk about women, men, athletes and even kids. Who would have thought? The show reaches out to such a broad audience but has a clever way of reaching out to all of them in a personal way though each episode.
MR: You have a new product out called Fat Loss Pros. What’s the target audience for this product? And what can they expect to learn by purchasing it?
JH: Fat Loss Pros is a series of audio interviews in which I picked the brains of some of the most genius fat loss minds in the world. Their qualifications are unmatched and their cumulative knowledge cannot be found anywhere but in this product. All of the interviews are in convenient mp3 format so they can be easily uploaded to an iPod or other listening devices.
I thought to myself based on my own experience, that it was about time that all of the effective fat loss information that existed, the meat and potatoes – not the fluff – be put into one place. Now, nothing is left to question. All the truths are right there contained in the interviews. I cannot even describe the education I received as I interviewed these experts.

That alone makes creating the product worth it. I give a lot of the credit for the physique I have achieved to these individuals, who are now available to anyone!
Not to mention the free bonuses that are available for a limited time. Included in this package are e-books, training and diet programs and separate exclusive interviews. The combined worth of the free gifts alone far exceed the cost of the entire audio package in it’s entirety.
What I have been able to achieve as a normal, working class wife and mother means a lot to me. Though it would cost hundreds just to have a consultation with one of these Pros alone, I did not want this to be out of reach to people just like me. We all just want to know what really works, and with this product, nothing is left to question. Any man or woman who is armed with Fat Loss Pros will know everything they need to be well on their way to a lean and muscular physique…permanently.
The content is flat out amazing. Look at some of the names. I personally would pay HUNDREDS of dollars to rack Dr. Eric Serrano’s brain for 30 minutes alone, let alone all of the other fat loss geniuses on this product. Each guest covers general training and nutrition for fat loss from their own personal perspective plus cover several areas of their own expertise. For instance, Dr. Lonnie Lowery and I covered “nutrient partitioning” for well over 30 minutes alone. The information in this product can be individually applied, and cannot be found like this compiled all together…anywhere!
This is the stuff real fat loss is made of and I simply want everyone to have access to it.
MR: Awesome Jen, thanks so much for the interview! Where can my newsletter readers learn more about you?
