I am sooooo vanilla.
I came to this realization yesterday. In ~5 weeks I’m supposed to do a presentation for Mike Boyle’s staff, and I have no clue what I’m going to talk about. Sure, I could give them one of the presentations from my Aussie seminars, but I’m not sure they want to sit in a chair and listen to me lecture for 2.5-3 hours on program design.
I wanted to do something super cool – how I do things differently, new exercises, etc. My good Jim Smith is the master of this – he can take one good idea and turn it into 15-20 new exercises.
But me? I’m just vanilla.
I’m vanilla in the fact that rather than looking for tons of new or cool stuff to try, I constantly come back to the basics. We all know squatting works – so instead of trying to find a new way to squat, or an exercise to replace squats, I’d rather talk about how to squat better. It’s the same way with benching, pull-ups, deadlifting, etc.
It works, but it’s got to be oh-so-boring.
Anyone got any ideas of what would be interesting and hands-on to discuss? I still think everyone can work on the fundamentals like cuing, observation, etc., but then again, these are some of the best trainers in the country. I need to bring my A-game.
If you could listen to me talk or coach, what would interest YOU? I look forward to your comments!!!
Stay strong
MR
BTW – I’ve got a new article up at FigureAthlete.com on squatting. Be sure to check it out.
BTW #2 – There are still openings for Mike Boyle’s seminar on February 14th. If you’re anywhere near the Boston area, it should be a great seminar.
