Robertson Training Systems Newsletter 6.03

Updates, Podcasts and More!

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, but I wanted to get a newsletter out ASAP to tell you about some of the great things going on within Robertson Training Systems.

The Dan John Podcast is up!

I recently had the opportunity to interview strength coach Dan John for the Podcast.  Needless to say, I think it’s fantastic!

I think everyone from beginners to advanced trainees can learn from Dan, so definitely check it out ASAP.

DVD Filming this Weekend

For several weeks now, I’ve been alluding to a new project I’m working on.  Essentially, I’m going to shoot video for the exact single-leg progressions I use with my clients and athletes.

We’re going to start with the basics, such as step-ups, and work all the way up the chain to advanced exercises like Bulgarian split-squats and pistols.

Perhaps more importantly, I’m going to give detailed instructions to set-up appropriately, the exact things I’m looking for from a technical perspective, and the coaching cues I use to make sure people execute the lifts appropriately. It’s amazing how much coaching material there is out there for the squat, bench and deadlift, while there are almost no good resources for single-leg training.

The DVD will be focused on the exercises, while the accompanying manual will detail my research on single-leg lifts, as well as my views on integrating them into a program.  While I definitely see the value of incorporating single-leg drills, I don’t think they’re the be-all, end-all of training.

I think this is going to be a great project for trainers and trainees alike.  Stay tuned!

The Updated Site

I’ll be honest, I love playing around with my website.

Luckily for me, I have a great web designer in Jason Lengstorf (www.EnnuiDesign.com) who enjoys expanding my website almost as much as he does taking my money!

In all seriousness, Jason has done a fantastic job in keeping me up to speed on things.  I wanted to give you a brief tour for those of you who may be new to the site, or at the very least, to show you the new bells and whistles we have around here.

The Blog

The blog is obviously a mainstay on the site.  I’ve seen a consistent trend – as I blog more often, I get more hits. In that same breath, I think the quality of my blogging is going up as well, so it’s definitely something you want to check daily!

If you’ll notice, at the bottom of every blog post there’s a Share/Save icon that allows you to easily forward my post on to friends, re-tweet it on Twitter, post it on Facebook, etc..  If you like my blog, please help me spread the word!

Jason also built a “time-machine” of sorts so I can write several blogs in a day, and then schedule them to go up throughout the week.  This should really help with my consistency, as I’ve had numerous days were a blog is ready to go, I just haven’t had the time to post it!

Services

I’m going to blog extensively about this Friday, but for the time being, I’m totally shutting down the online training. We got a massive response to my Haiti Relief Fund training endeavor, and that’s going to keep me very busy for the next 3-4 months.

I’ll post something when it opens back up, but for now, all online training services via Robertson Training Systems is CLOSED.

The good news is this: We’ve developed $7,000 at this point in time to help the people of Haiti!  It’s going to be very cool cutting that check on Friday.

Newsletter

I recently locked down the newsletter archive in an effort to make it more exclusive. Quite simply, f you’re not a Facebook friend, a follower on Twitter, or signed up for my mailing list, you don’t get access to the archives!

This is a no-brainer, in my opinion – you get access to several sweet PDF’s, a full one-hour seminar I did on low back pain, not to mention newsletter archives that go back almost 5 years. Plus, I typically only send out one e-mail per week, so I’m not exactly spamming you guys 😉

As always, thank you for supporting me in this regard!

Training Network

I get some version of this question all the time:

Do you know a good trainer in <Insert City Here> that you can refer me to?

I created my training network page to minimize resopnse times and make things easy for people who want to find great trainers in this area.

Quite simply, the trainers and coaches on this list are top notch.  I would trust any of them with my clients/athletes.  We may not agree on everything, but we’re on the same page with the 90-95% that’s most critical.

The page is still a little rough around the edges, but I’ll clean it up over time. I’ll also be adding to this list, as several coaches still haven’t gotten back to me yet with their contact info.

Get Social

Those nifty icons to the right?  Those are links to my Facebook and Twitter pages.  As you probably already know, I really like Facebook – it’s cool to catch up with old friends, and it’s an invaluable tool to meet new ones, too.

I’m not as sold on Twitter yet, but it has its moments.

Quite simply, if you want to keep up on everything here at RTS, be sure to check those out.

I hope that once filming is done this weekend, I can get on a more consistent newsletter schedule.  For now, enjoy the Podcast and take a look around the new site.

Have a great week!

MR
