Mike and Bill on the FitCast

Last Sunday Bill Hartman and myself had the pleasure of joining up with Kevin Larrabee on The FitCast to discuss a bunch of training-related topics. If you haven’t heard of the FitCast before, follow the link below to check it out – you may have to scroll down a little bit to find our interview.

The FitCast

Tons of New Products on the Way!

In the upcoming months, look for several new products to be released. Eric Cressey and my “Building the Efficient Athlete” seminar DVD’s are running behind, but are now in good hands and should be completed in the coming weeks.

As well, both of my presentations from the LA Seminar were videotaped and are currently in production as well. In the future, I’ll make manuals to accompany and expand on both presentations, but this should be more than enough info to keep you busy for a while. Stay tuned!

Awesome Training Footage

If any of you need any inspiration and/or motivation for your training, check out these video clips!

The videos are of Wade Hooper, multiple time IPF World Champion, and one of the nicest powerlifters I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. In his October 8th squat clips, Wade at all of 165 pounds works up to two singles at 350 kilos (771 pounds)! This is truly inspirational stuff.

Training Tip

Stretch the Quads and Calves

Recent research has led us to believe that there’s a relationship between tight quads/calves and anterior knee pain.

A prospective study evaluated over 200 high school age athletes, taking multiple measurements but most specifically looking at flexibility of certain muscle groups. A two-year follow-up revealed that 25 of those over 200 athletes had developed patello-femoral pain, and one correlation that came up time and again was a significant decrease in flexibility in these muscle groups.

The take home message here? If you value your knee health, make sure you’re stretching your quads and calves on a daily basis!

Nutrition Tip

All Heed the “Table Push-Away”

No, it’s not the newest isolation exercise to develeop your trapezoids or deltards, this is one that has been consistently proven to decrease your waistline!

I’m amazed at how many overweight people ask me how they should eat to lose weight. Typically these are also people who, A) I’ve just been introduced to, and/or B) People who’ve just found out I’m a personal trainer. They go on to explain their dietary habits, whatever diet they’ve been following, etc.

The best answer to start with? STOP EATING SO DAMN MUCH! Even people that make tons of healthy choices throughout the day can still gain weight simply because they are taking in too many calories, or eating portions that are too large.

If you’ve found yourself gaining weight over the years, try implementing the “Table Push-Away” into your program and see how it works for you!

Product Update

Inside-Out getting amazing reviews!

Bill Hartman and my “Inside-Out” DVD and manual are getting rave reviews. Here are just a few quotes from industry experts who’ve reviewed the material:

At my job, I have the opportunity to learn from the best minds in the fitness industry. In fact, over the years, I’ve interviewed and worked with literally hundreds–maybe thousands–of trainers, PhDs, and doctors. And in that time, I’ve never met any expert who’s more knowledgeable than Bill Hartman. Which is why I was excited when he asked me to to review “Inside-Out.” It was a chance to take a shortcut to learning some of what Bill knows, a culmination of his experience and education. Add to that his collaboration with Mike Robertson, one of the bright young minds in the field, and it was clear that this was going to be a special product.

Turns out, it is. Exceptional, actually.

Now don’t let the name fool you; the information the authors provide is far beyond most people’s concept of a warm-up. Truth is, I wouldn’t call it warm-up at all. That implies it’s something you do just to prepare for your primary training session. While, in actuality, the plan you’ll find within should be a mandatory part of your primary training. I know from personal experience, having used Bill’s programs for years, that the instruction that Bill and Mike give in both the manual and DVD will make you stronger, enhance your performance, and help you shore up long-time weak spots–not to mention prevent injuries. And if you’re like me, and work at a desk 10 hours a day, it’ll also help your body feel a whole lot better when you aren’t working out.

The bottom line: If you don’t have Inside-Out, your workout isn’t nearly as good as it could be.

And if that’s not enough, even the “Shoulder Guy” recommends it:

“The Inside-Out DVD and Manual have me excited for two reasons. First off, Bill and Mike are two of the brightest minds in the industry, and it comes as no surprise that they’ve put together an outstanding resource. Second, and more selfishly, I’m thrilled about how much work this manual will save ME! In light of a lot of my articles, I’ve been labeled a ‘Shoulder Guy.’

So I get dozens of email inquiries each week from those with shoulder problems. Thanks to these two, I now have a comprehensive, highly effective resource to which I can send these individuals. And, just as importantly, Inside-Out will keep thousands of others healthy in the first place. This will be a ‘go-to’ resource for years to come.”
