Random Friday 12-11

Utah - But I'm Taller

It’s been a hectic week, as my own training has cranked up and I’m prepping to present tomorrow at the NSCA Illinois state seminar tomorrow, but here goes with our typical Random Friday post.  We’ll be back at full-speed with blogs and newsletters next week!

–  A few months ago, I had the chance to review John Izzo’s Shatterproof Spine DVD.  If you’re a personal trainer that works with clients in low back pain, you owe it to yourself to check this DVD out.  Obviously there’s a lot of carryover to what many of us in the field are doing, but in my opinion you can never learn enough about topics like this one.

–  When the original Core Performance book came out several years ago, I think I can honestly say it probably re-defined training for the lay population.  While many people had never heard of foam rolling, dynamic stretching and the like, now regular Joes could learn how to train more like athletes.

I just got word that Core Performance for Women is being released, and if you have a special lady in your life who wants to get into better shape, or just move and feel better this would make for a great gift.

–  In case you don’t check his blog that often, my good friend Tony Gentilcore interviewed me this past week, and I think you’ll really enjoy it.  I always enjoy getting interviewed as it allows me to speak my mind a little bit more than usual.

Anyway, you can check it out at the link below:

Mike Robertson Interview

– If you’ve read this far, I owe you at least a little content, right? 😉

So in regards to my single-leg presentation I’m giving this weekend, I’ve done a ton of digging w/regards to current literature.  A lot of that has revolved around the glute medius.

Did you know that glute medius has not one, not two, but THREE distinct sub-sections?

Did you also know that each of these three sub-sections has its own motor point?  In other words, each of these three sub-sections has its own nerve supply.

Did you know that the primary role of the glute medius may not be to abduct, internally, or externally rotate the hip?  I know it’s blasphemy and all, but there’s a lot of great information out there when we start digging into the research and literature for ourselves.

All right everyone, I need to train and get out of here.  Have a great weekend and I’ll see you next week!

All the best

MR
