What’s up my friend?
I hope you’re doing well and having a great day.
Now I don’t know if you follow me on Instagram, but yesterday I threw up a reel to share what I’ll be working on here at RTS in Quarter 2.
The intention here was two-fold:
- To let you know about things that might interest you (and you can save the date, if necessary), and
- To hold my feet to the fire and make sure I get everything done!
So I’ll post that video below…but if you’d rather skim/read this post and see what applies to you, I’m cool with that as well!
(And of course the embed isn’t working, so you can find it here https://www.instagram.com/p/DH3-q02Sip1)
I think the biggest takeaway here is that I’m going to be pushing – now more than ever before – to help this industry level up.
So if you’re serious about becoming a better trainer or coach, you know I’ve got you covered.
Now here’s the write-up if you’re interested. Enjoy!
Program Design Mentorship (Monday 4.7)
I’ve been talking about it for a while now, but my Program Design Mentorship is BACK!
Every time I’ve run one of these it’s gotten a little bit better, and I can’t wait for my next group to get rolling.
I’ll drop a link below where you can learn more, but here’s a quick overview of what the mentorship offers:
- High-level, in-depth program design concepts delivered monthly that will help you level up your overall understanding of programming.
- Monthly Q&A calls with the group where I can answer all of your specific questions.
- Direct access to me via text/WhatsApp. And
- A supportive community where you can ask questions/interact with other coaches, review ALL of the previous Q&A calls, and more!
Quite simply if you’re interested in taking your program design skills to the next level, you won’t want to miss this.
The application process goes live next Monday, so be sure to check your inbox then for more info!

Getting Downhill Basketball Clinic (Monday 4.21)
This is probably only relevant if you’re a high school basketball player in the Indianapolis area, but I’m going to throw it up here anyway 😉
On Monday, April 21st from 6-8 pm, I’m going to team up with some of the guys at H&H Fieldhouse to put on a 2-hour workshop on first step acceleration and quickness.
One of the biggest complaints I’ve gotten over the years from players, parents and coaches alike goes something like this:
“Little Johnny can really shoot it…but he’s just not fast!”
And we all know that if someone is a threat to get to the basketball, they’re immediately harder to guard on the court!
So in this workshop we’re going to spend one hour in the gym with yours truly, and then a second hour on the court where Greg and Harvey are going to teach you how to put it together.
Here are a few things I’ll be covering:
- The EXACT positions you need to be able to get into to get downhill.
- Weight room movements that will actually transfer to the court (versus just crushing more squats and deadlifts).
- A film breakdown to show you how the best hoopers in the world blow by their defenders. And
- Exercises you can start using TODAY to improve your first step and help you get to the basket with ease!
Now again I realize YOU (as a coach) may not be interested in this, but I’m also going to take this content and flesh it out even further for my IFAST Basketball Insider’s May Content.
So if you’re an athlete I’d love to see you at the event…
…and if you’re a coach, I’d love to see you at IFAST Basketball Insiders ASAP!
Lee Taft 1-Day Workshop at IFAST (Saturday 6.21)
Yes you heard me right – the one and only Lee Taft will be here in Indianapolis on Saturday, June 21st for a one-day workshop!
Lee is going to be going in-depth on his approach to multi-directional speed training, and if you’re serious about getting better as a coach, you won’t want to miss that.
The primary focus will be on Lee’s 7 movement patterns for athleticism, namely:
- Linear Acceleration
- Max Velocity Sprinting
- Lateral Shuffle
- Lateral Run
- Backpedal
- Hip Turn
- Jumping
And within those patterns, there are numerous variations and ways to coach, so it’s going to be an awesome day.
Perhaps most importantly, we’re only taking 25-30 attendees MAX for this event, so if you want to attend, be sure to book in ASAP!

Evolving Strength Masterclass (Wednesday 6.25)
Last but not least, my next masterclass will be help on Wednesday, June 25th at 1 pm EST.
This class will really lock in and focus on strength training, and how your training programs can (and should) evolve over the decades.
I alluded to this in last week’s masterclass a bit, but I think the age old saying applies here:
“What got you here won’t get you there.”
Anyway this is definitely a ways out, but I’m hoping to have a registration page live for this by May 1st – so stay tuned for more info.
Summary
Okay my friend that does it for today.
As you can see there’s LOTS going on here in Quarter 2 at RTS, because all of the above go beyond the standard newsletters, podcasts and content that I create.
We’re going to MAKE 2025 an awesome year, and I’m pumped to have you along for the ride!
All the best,
MR
