Glenn Robinson III on Basketball, Fatherhood, and Leaving a Legacy

Glenn Robinson III is someone I’m privileged to call a friend.

I remember watching his father, Glenn Robinson Jr.—also known as “The Big Dog”—when I was a young player growing up. I loved watching the Big 10 and seeing The Big Dog himself go at it.

So, many years later, when I got to work with his son, Glenn, it was a huge deal for me.

But Glenn never felt like he was walking in his father’s shadow. Glenn, a 7-year NBA veteran, has played with several teams, including the Detroit Pistons, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State Warriors, and the Indiana Pacers, where he was the NBA Slam Dunk Champion.

Beyond basketball, Glenn is doing some important work in the world as the founder of the ARI Foundation, a non-profit organization that empowers fathers and provides assistance to fatherless children and families.

Glenn joins me today to discuss how he found his love for basketball and what it was like to be the son of basketball superstar, Glenn Robinson Jr.

He describes how he trained with a dunk coach and won the 2017 NBA Dunk Contest.

He explains why coaches need to know their athletes and how his strength and conditioning training has changed over the years.

And Glenn also shares what being a father means to him and highlights the work that he does for the ARI Foundation.

Being a professional weight room coach means learning the proper techniques for everything, because you need to know how to adjust to these athletes. – Glenn Robinson III
