While I’m admittedly not the biggest hockey fan out there, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m obsessed with learning more about athletic development in all sports. Kevin Neeld is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to ice hockey training, and someone that we can all definitely learn from.
In today’s show we’re going to discuss why being fat, slow and unathletic (his words –not mine) got Kevin into physical preparation, the three big rocks of his training philosophy, and how to build the ultimate hockey player.
Show Outline
Here’s a brief overview of what we covered in the show:
- Kevin’s background and how he got started in hockey.
- What originally led him to the world of physical preparation.
- Kevin’s “Big Rocks” when it comes to athletic development.
- The physical tools and traits he would bestow upon his perfect hockey player (if he could create one)!
- Thoughts on anaerobic/glycolytic development for hockey players, and why this may NOT be the best way to train them.
- How Kevin deals with the short off-season in pro hockey, and attempts to balance true time off with getting back into shape.
- His experience working with USA Hockey this past summer.
- The BIG Question.
- And of course a scintillating lightning round, where we find out Kevin’s favorite hockey team (yes I made him answer this), his favorite non-hockey sport, and much more!
