Okay my friends, it’s been a few weeks since I did one of these so I have a TON of video content for you this time around.

My guy Paul and I are still a work-in-progress as we build out better thumbnails, graphics, etc., but I truly hope the content makes YOU a better trainer, coach or athlete.

So enough from me…let’s jump right in!

Thoughts on Programming and Coaching

I’ve been thinking about split-squats a lot lately, so you’re definitely going to see that theme in these first two videos.

The first one focuses on using an “active” heel to keep the weight back. This is really important if you have clients/athletes who have a tendency to get pushed forward whenever they do split-squats or lunges.

The second video also discusses the heel, but explains why it’s important to actually find and “get into” the heel when performing split-squats.

In this video, I talk about a concept called the “reload week.”

Not to be confused with the much more popular deload, the reload week is a fantastic way to get back into training following a period of detraining, vacation, or anything in between.

Podcast Soundbytes

Man I’ve had some really good people on the podcast lately!

The first episode was with my guy Brijesh Patel. We talked a lot about soft-skills in this show, as well as the need to teach your athletes about mindset, attitude and positive self-talk.

The second show was with 15-year baseball veteran Josh Lindblom.

Josh has an amazing backstory, but what’s really interesting to me are the habits and skills he’s developed to be in the game that long.

Even if you’re not a huge baseball fan, this is the worth the listen!

The final soundbyte comes from a solo show where I talked about soft-skills in coaching. I think too often soft-skills get a bad rap, when in reality, they can be used as an amplifier to get even better results with your clients and athletes.

Exercise Demos

This week I put a big focus on sled drag variations.

Whether it’s creating space on the back side, teaching someone to push laterally, or just being used as a tool to extend the warm-up or build work capacity, I’m a HUGE fan of sled drags.

In this videos I break down some of my favorite variations, and explain why I might use each in my sessions.

Basketball

Last but not least, I really want to start creating more basketball-specific content for my people.

While I’m not sure any of it is “new” per se, I do think I have a unique viewpoint based on my backround, experience, and the level of athlete I’m working with.

Anyway, in this week’s video NBA skills coach Joey Burton and I breakdown deceleration, the Eurostep, and why the heel can be a critical aspect of slowing down and controlling momentum.

I really hope you enjoyed the videos – thanks so much for coming through and have a great week!

Best
MR
