Steve Long has been in the fitness industry for almost 20 years now, and according to him, still feels like a dumbass on a weekly to daily basis when working with clients.
This feeling drives him to continually learn more, to be able to help his clients, and share some of the best nuggets that he picks up along the way with other training professionals.
Like anyone who’s been in the industry for a while, I too have had my share of ups and downs.
Because trust me – nothing will put you on an emotional rollercoaster like owning your own business!
So between Steve and I’s shared experiences, I think we’ve got a great show for you here today.
I shut down a large (8,000 square foot) facility where we did a lot of large group training to focus pre-dominantly on semi-private because that’s what I like to do – I like to dive into the minutiae of training. – Steve Long.
This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast:
- Steve’s start in the fitness industry, and how strong mentors early-on introduced him to continuing education.
- Why he became stagnant and bored with ConEd, and why burnout is such a real thing in our industry.
- What ultimately led him back to ConEd, and why the White Belt or “Beginners Mindset” approach has served him well.
- How continuing education actually fueled changes in his own training and physique.
- Why building a bigger, badder gym may not be the best idea – and why Steve’s gone back to an old-school, 1,000 square foot studio.
- How starting martial arts training has led to a big shift in his business model and ideal client.
- General training thoughts, including his thoughts on resets and training in a more athletic fashion.
- And last but not least, arguably the best answer to the “Big Question” that I’ve ever had on this show. It’s worth the price of admission!
