Things have been a little nutty around here – lots going on within Robertson Training Systems, IFAST, and just life in general.
It’s weird, though – over the past 3-4 months, I’ve had this revelation of sorts.
Between all the business ventures, my forays back into powerlifting, and really trying to be the best husband and father I can possibly be, a lot has changed for me.
While it’s been incredibly stressful at times, I can also say that it’s given me a new-found appreciation for a lot of things in my life, and perhaps more importantly, a laser-like focus on what is really important.
Now don’t worry, I’m not going to get all new-age and crazy on you here, but I’ve definitely started to realize some things and I see this blog going in a slightly different direction over the coming months.
One thing I’ve been asking myself a lot frequently is the following question:
Who is the typical person that frequents my site?
Unlike a lot of fitness sites that are extremely tight in their niche (fat loss, sports performance training, etc.) it’s incredibly hard for me to answer this and say I cater specifically to Person X.
Instead, there are numerous people that visit my site every day. Chances are one of the descriptions below fits you:
- Someone looking to shed body fat or improve their body composition,
- Someone looking to improve their sports or lifting performance,
- Someone looking to rehabilitate or recover from an injury,
- A trainer looking to improve their skill set, and/or
- Someone for whom fitness is part of their job (police officer, fire fighter, military, special forces, etc.).
As you can see, there really is no “typical” person that comes to my site. So of course I could burrow down and just focus on one of these.
Or….
I could back off, try and examine training and life from a more global perspective, and hopefully help out even more people in the process.
Hopefully you can imagine which option I’ve decided to pursue! 🙂
In a lot of ways, I feel like someone has removed a mask that I’ve worn for years. I’ve always bee the type of person who wears my heart on my sleeve and tries to tell it like it is, but I feel like now, more than ever before, I can communicate more freely and directly with each and every one of you.
Furthermore, while the focus of the site always has been and always will be about training, in the coming months I’m going to do my best to take a step back a bit. We’re still going to focus on training and everything it can teach you, but we’ll back off a bit in an effort to see the forest for the trees.
Because let’s be honest – the life lessons and principles we learn from training can be universally applicable, if you allow them to be.
The bottom line is this: Whether I realized it or not, I’ve been holding back.
So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy the next couple of months. I’m going to do my best to give you guys the most realistic, down-to-Earth, real-world and actionable information that I possibly can.
I hope you’re ready for the journey!
All the Best
