Thoughts on Mentors, Coaches and Social Media

If I’m being honest, there are numerous times over my career when I’ve struggled.

When I was first getting started as a coach, I really struggled to find my coaching “persona” – to not only command a room when I needed to, but to have empathy and connection for my athletes as well.

When Bill and I opened IFAST in 2008, it didn’t take long to realize that I was a way better coach and author then I was businessman – and I needed help.

And last but not least when I was really trying to become a more well-rounded coach, I knew that I needed help if I wanted to write better conditioning programs, or to coach and cue speed training more effectively.

So I did the next logical thing in that progression – I sought out people that knew more than me and tried to learn everything I could from them!

But you want to know the hardest part of all this?

Knowing you need a coach or mentor is the easy part…but taking action and doing something about it is what takes real guts.

It’s hard to admit you need help.

To let your guard down and tell someone else you don’t know everything.

Or to put your pride and ego aside in an effort to truly level up your life or business.

And I think most of the people who watch my videos, listen to my podcast and read my articles have a certain amount of self-reliance in them.

You’re a strong individual who takes pride in yourself and your work.

Your not perfect (none of us are!) but you’re always working to get a little bit better.

And I respect the hell out of you for that!

But sometimes I think we make the mistake of assuming that if we just keep working hard and plugging along that we’ll magically figure it out.

Which simply isn’t the case.

And I think social media and the Internet have made this even worse.

There are so many social media gurus and fitness “influencers” out there these days that will tell you they have all the secrets.

They’re they ones that can help you level up your business, write better programs, or help you get the results you’re looking for with your clients and athletes.

But you want to know the real truth?

What many of those so-called “experts” don’t want you to know?

That social media influencer has already failed as a coach or business owner, didn’t have the stomach for playing that game in the long term to demonstrate real success, so now they’re moving their operation online in an effort to teach you what they were never successful at in the first place!

How messed up is that?

How we now correlate social media influence, likes and attention with the real-world knowledge to get the job done?

Now rather than just ranting about the state of the fitness industry or the impact social media has on it, I want to throw this out there.

For the better part of 20 years now, I’ve been coaching and mentoring people like you.

Educating and giving people a better understanding and framework for how the human body moves.

Developing the tools necessary to write better programs – programs that work for ALL people who want to move and feel better, because they’re based on principles – not gimmicks or sexy exercises.

And teaching you how to coach and cue more effectively, because the best written programs mean nothing if you aren’t executing that program the way its intended.

So if you’re serious about becoming a better trainer or coach, I’d love to help – and here are two great places to start.

1 – If you’re new to my work or need a more solid foundation under your feet, my Complete Coach Certification should be your starting point.

Here you’ll learn all the fundamentals – from running a better assessment, using that assessment to write better programs, and then how to coach and cue with precision.

2 – If you’ve been around for a while, done the cert, and or really want to improve your programs, you should really consider my Program Design Mentorship.

Here I’m going to take you step-by-step through my program design process, and give you real-world, practical applications so you start writing better programs in your first month.

But if you’re interested in the mentorship, please review the above page and fill out your application ASAP, as I’ll be starting all my applicant interviews like it next week.

Now with that being said, here’s my final promise to you…

Like it or not, you’re going to keep hearing from me, because that’s what I do.

THIS is what I do.

I keep showing up.

And I’m here to help you and move this industry forward, so even when these so called “Experts” move on to their next industry or side hustle, I’ll always be here to help you out.

Thanks for your support – love and appreciate you!

All the best,
MR

P.S. – If you’ve got any questions about the cert or mentorship, shoot me an email at [email protected] – I’m happy to answer any/all questions you might have!
