Why I Hate the “Hips Down” Cue in Sports

As someone who has coached athletes of every shape, size and ability, it annoys me to no end when a coach randomly tells an athlete to “get their hips down.”

And keep in mind, I know it’s well-intentioned – they want to help this athlete be more athletic and/or explosive in their respective sport.

But what if an athlete physically can’t get into that position?

Or worse, what if trying to get their “hips down” actually makes the feel and move SLOWER?

In this video I break down this thought process in a bit more depth, and explain how you can argue against this old-school and flawed thinking!

Thanks for watching and MAKE it a great day!

All the best,
MR
