Monthly Update – February 2025

Hey friend! Hope you’re doing well and having a great day.

As you may or may not know, one of my primary goals in 2025 was to get more writing done.

And one thing I used to do that people seemed to really enjoy were random update posts, articles and newsletters, so I think I’m going to start there and see what happens!

Anyway, I’m going to break this up into a couple of different sections so feel free to read as much (or as little) as you’d like.

Let’s do this!

Announcements and Recap

Late 2024/Early 2025 Checklist DONE.

I posted this on social a while back, but damn it felt good to check all the things off this final to do list!

I made a ton of progress in my business in the final quarter or 2024, and I think this format will definitely make a huge impact for me going forward.

Plus, doing this provided some external accountability, as the entire world (or at least all of Instagram) knew that what I had going on.

I’ve already got my Q1 goals outlined, just need to get them into the checklist and then I’ll post here again for accountability purposes.

All in all, a great end of the year!

(Also more thoughts on my new organization system below!)

The Fit for Life Workshop was a huge success!

It had been almost two years since Joel and I did something together, and needless to say, it’s always getting to hang out with him.

But our 1-Day Fit for Life Workshop in Vegas was a huge hit, and everyone in attendance really seemed to enjoy it.

Most importantly, it just reaffirmed to me that there’s definitely a need for coaches/trainers who are focused on the longevity side of the equation – not just helping people get a six-pack.

Regardless, I hope I can talk Joel into doing more events like this, but either way it was a huge success and a ton of fun to boot.

Recapture Your Lost Athleticism with the Everyday Athlete!

One of my goals in 2025 was to create more training programs that people can use and follow.

After all, I realize that while some people may want or need full blown, 1-on-1 coaching, others of you just want a really solid program you can use.

Which is exactly why I created my Everyday Athlete program!

This program is geared towards the person (generally 30+) that wants to move and feel like an athlete, get back to running and jumping, all without getting hurt in the process.

Anyway, I’d like to think this is a solid program and the feedback I’ve gotten so far has been awesome.

The Complete Coach Cert is Now LIVE Year Round!

Another thing I wanted to do this year was make access to the Complete Coach Cert year round.

I think the “launch” model is fine if you’re pushing a new product out into the universe, but beyond that, I’m not sure it has the same appeal.

But imagine this scenario as well…

…if a trainer or coach has something happen – maybe a client gets injured, fires them, whatever – and they want to level up as a coach, why should they have to wait to get started?!?!?!

So that’s why you can now get started with the certification whenever the time is right for you.

Content Updates

Don’t worry, I’ll keep this section a little bit shorter πŸ˜‰

First off, I’ve gotten mixed reviews on my Tempo Article…which I kind of expected.

After all, if you’ve been doing this for years, I realize it’s really hard to change. But I also feel like for end-users, this is probably a better way to go.

Regardless, this is how I did all the prescription in the Everyday Athlete program listed above, so we’ll see what users there have to say. For now, the jury is still out!

However, I can tell you two of my recent podcasts were very well received.

The show with Tyler Ray was truly a masterclass in vertical jump training. We had an awesome back-and-forth discussion, and if you train athletes who need to jump higher, I think you’ll love the show.

Second, I’ve had 15-20 people reach out since listening to my Ideal Clients podcast to say that they really enjoyed it.

I tried to share some lessons that apply to ALL coaches – whether you’ve been doing this for decades or only a couple of months.

Regardless, if you haven’t listened to those shows yet, be sure to check them out!

Random Thoughts

Okay friends – now let’s get random!

Life Organization

One thing I’m working on is better organizing my life and workflow – which feels like an ongoing/never-ending task!

However, what I’ve found is that if I break up my agenda into something like this, it all starts to come together:

  1. Weekly Tasks: These are the things I have to do every week like record podcasts, send out newsletters, write programs, etc.
  2. Weekly Sprints: These are simple one week jobs that don’t occur every week. Furthermore, this may work towards an overall bigger goal (like creating a presentation/workshop), or be something more standalone (like updating specific pages on my website).
  3. Monthly Goals: These are things that I want to get done that cannot be completed in a weekly sprint.
  4. Quarterly Goals: These are my “Big Rocks” for the quarter.

Anyway, organizing things in this fashion has made my workflow a lot tighter, and helped me get a better idea as to everything I have on my plate.

Not sure if that helps you at all, but maybe it stimulates some thought! πŸ˜‰

Luka DončiΔ‡ Got Traded?!?!!?

It’s been 2-3 days now, and I’m still processing this. Now one of my general rules in situations like this is not to talk too much, specifically because unless you’re in an organization you DO NOT know the whole story, and furthermore, there are often layers to these situations most of us will never know about.

Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis are NBA's latest chess board piecesHowever, here’s something I want you to consider:

A 25-year-old athlete just lost out on $116 MILLION of potential revenue because his team determined he wasn’t fit enough!

Needless to say, this has been a huge talking point in the gym the past couple of days, and for good reason.

And while I have a ton of thoughts on this, I think one of the biggest talking points is that if you’re a professional athlete, your body is your vehicle – and should be one of your biggest investments.

There are stories abound about Jordan, Kobe, and LeBron spending millions of dollars every day to take care of their body and make sure they were primed and ready to go.

But taking that a step further, if you’re a young athlete, you need to see that investing time and energy in your body is one of the best investments you can make as well.

I love Luka’s game and want to see him truly thrive, so hopefully this is the impetus he needs to really lock in and show everyone how elite he can be.

In-Season Programming

Last but not least, I’ve been doing a lot more in-season programming this year than in years past, and it’s been interesting to see the results.

One of my athletes (who shall remain nameless) said his strength coach literally had him squatting, RDL’ing and bench pressing 3×10 every time he was in the gym.

Others are trying to lift their guys 3-4x/week in season, on top of an already grueling practice and game schedule.

So my question to those coaches is this:

WHY?

Why are you killing these guys in the weight room?

Why are you adding even more fatigue?

And why are you making them WORSE at the one thing they are getting paid to do – which is to go out and hoop on game day?

It’s truly wild – but hopefully coaches like you start getting more in-season work so we can fix this mess. (BTW – if you want to write better in-season programs, I guarantee this will help!)

Personal Stuff

Last but not least, a few personal items before I let you go!

Kendall is 14!

Man it’s hard to believe buy my baby girl turned 14 on Sunday!

She’s the most amazing little human, and I’m so inspired by her every day.

Here are a few highlights:

  1. She massively leveled up in soccer, and started training 6x/week across soccer practices, individual sessions, and working out with her favorite strength coach πŸ˜‰
  2. Won STATE in her We The People Competition. This is like debate club on steroids, and her team absolutely crushed it. So cool.
  3. Is also participating in National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, and basically dominating 8th grade.

Needless to say I’m so proud of this girl and enjoying every minute I get with her. She’s the best!

Summary

Okay my friends that does it for this month.

I hope you enjoy these types of posts, because like it or not, I’m going to be writing more of them πŸ˜‰

Thanks so much for reading and let’s have a STRONG finish to our week!

All the best,
MR
