Why I’m Part of the Elite Training Mentorship

Zach Moore is a special guy.

In case you haven’t heard me talk about Zach before, he’s our afternoon coach at IFAST and someone we’re incredibly lucky to have on board.

Furthermore, here’s a guy that has only been coaching clients and athletes for the last 2 years and is absolutely killing it. Literally every time I’m in the gym it seems as though one of our clients is raving about how much he’s helped them.

Now I’m sure you’re wondering, what does this have to do with the Elite Training Mentorship?

I’m glad you asked…. :) Continue reading

The Elite Training Mentorship

“I wish I lived closer to you.”

“I wish I was younger so I could do an internship with you.”

“I hate living in ‘X’ because there’s no good information for trainers and coaches who want to get better.”

I hear some incantation of the above statements on a weekly basis.

And if this sounds at all like you, I’ve got something awesome to tell you about today! Continue reading

Who Does MR Train?

Last week about this time, I was having coffee with a good friend and former IFAST intern Eric Oetter.

Eric is one of the most driven and curious individuals I’ve ever met, so it’s always great to have a chat and see where his head is at.

Since we don’t get to catch up as much as we like, we were trying to cover a whole bunch of topics (both personal and professional), in what little time we had.

At one point, Eric asked me a great question:

“Does it ever bother you that some people say you haven’t trained anyone?”

(And by “anyone”, he meant I don’t train a bunch of professional athletes, celebrities, etc.) Continue reading

34 Quotes from Charlie Weingroff

I think I can speak for everyone involved – the “Making a Monster” seminar was a huge success!

I really didn’t know what to expect, as we only had 5 weeks to pull the entire thing together. Regardless, we had over 50 attendees, and it was just an awesome day all-around.

For those of you that couldn’t make it, here are some of the most quotable quotes of the day. If nothing else, these could spur some nice discussion in the “Comments” section below! Continue reading

Q&A: Is Static Stretching Good?

Mike -

I have a question I was hoping you could possibly answer on your blog.

I’ve been reading a lot lately about stretching and the various methods that can be used. While I’m still a big believer in static stretches I have slowly been becoming more familiar with stretches by Kelly Starrett and Pavel Tsatsouline, and am slowly finding myself questioning regular static stretches.

What are your thoughts on the more aggressive stretches by Kelly and Pavel as opposed to regular static stretches? Also, do you feel as though PNF stretching is better than static stretching?

First off, this is a fantastic question and hopefully I can answer it thoroughly enough via a blog post. I’ll do my best! Continue reading

Q&A: Be Like Mike….Robertson???

Mike, I’m a 22-year old up-and-coming trainer, and I’ve followed your stuff for the past year.

Basically, I’d love to be where you’re at in the next year or two – own my own gym, write for money, etc.

Got any tips or tricks that can help me out?

I got this e-mail a while back, and couldn’t decide what to do with it.

Send a snarky e-mail back?

Ignore it all together?

Or possibly, write something up that everyone can benefit from?

Obviously, I chose the latter. Continue reading

Happy Birthday Kendall!

One year ago today, my wife Jessica and I were blessed when our little girl, Kendall Ann, was born.

This was obviously a life changing event. This little girl is just so amazing and someone I care so much about.

And I can tell you, I’ve changed quite a bit as a result.

Things that used to set me off now have little to no effect on my demeanor.

I’m not checking e-mails, texts or answering phone calls 24/7 like I used to. I’m still a workaholic, but not nearly as bad I used to be :)

Basically, I’m a much more centered and focused person – funny how a little one will do that to you!

It wouldn’t be much of a birthday without a celebration, though, so we’re taking young Kendall out to breakfast and getting out to enjoy the weather a bit. I heard there was something going on in downtown Indy this weekend, so maybe we’ll check that out!

Most importantly to you, I want you to join in the celebration as well!

My little girl means the world to me, but I also realize I’ve been blessed in virtually every aspect of my life. For instance, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today in a professional sense without the support of people such as yourself.

To help celebrate Kendall’s first birthday, I’m going to offer you my Complete Core Fitness webinar series for $30 off!

This offer is good today through Sunday, February 5th.

CCF outlines my entire approach to core training, and it’s gotten great reviews. I think you’ll not only enjoy it, but make some serious improvements to your core training programs as a result.

With that being said, I’m logging off for the day.  Have a good one and wish Kendall a happy birthday next time you see her!

All the best
